I joined Celebrate Recovery for grief and to help others with their recovery. I stuffed all the feelings that were going on inside down and turned to food as a comfort instead of facing my true emotions. I was overwhelmed, stuck and felt completely lost and out of control.

Before recovery, all I wanted to do was make sure everyone else was happy and make sure they were pleased with my work. I felt bound in relationships by performance (what I did) rather than core value and worth (who I am). I avoided conflict at all cost and valued other opinions and feelings more than my own… I daily lived with messages of not being good enough or valued. I was highly co-dependent! I hated making mistakes, I hated letting people down. In trying to make everyone else happy though, I made more mistakes and missed things that were really going on with family and friends. I had lost my voice!

Growing up in a Legalistic Baptist Environment all I wanted to do was make sure that I was doing enough to get to heaven and not be left behind. I was also always the “good girl” making sure to do everything right, obeying all the rules.

This fueled my struggle with codependency and people pleasing but also taught me that God was a God to be feared. A God with no Grace, a God that would judge me more than love me and that simply is not true.

On the flip side of that I have also experienced being hurt by friends in my own church. Friends who are Christ followers. Some friends who are no longer in my life and some who I have experienced restoration with! Restoration is possible!!

Some Truths I have learned on my journey through recovery…. I am a seen & valued Child of God. I have a voice and my words, when spoken in truth, matter. I am a treasured, loved, valued, gifted woman in leadership. I am worthy to have and experience my true emotions which God gifted me with. Jesus walks alongside me and uses me to walk alongside others. He calls me to love others as he loves me. This is my passion and my calling.
